Amazing Danish West Indies collections at Nordia 2017

2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the sale of the Danish West Indies to America, and Nordia 2017 presents in this regard, perhaps the greatest Danish West Indian exhibition to date.

We have been fortunate enough to borrow some remarkable items from the Postal Museum (Enigma)in connection with our Danish West Indies exhibition.

Nordia 2017 can present collections originating with Gunnar Aage Hagemann RDP FRPSL (1877-1971,) 9 frames, and Torben Geills (1896-1989), 8 frames, International gold exhibit, “Danish West Indies from 1739 to 1917”,

Other unique items from The Postal Museum (Enigma) includes 3 frames from the collection of proofs and essays. These contain original drawings, preparatory studies, proofs, colour trials and printings of outer frames, central images (in intaglio), and complete sheets (perforate and imperforate) from the St. Thomas Harbour issue of 1905.

Finally Nordia2017 present The 3 cent and 7 cent bicoloured issue of 1873 in complete imperforate proof double sheets. One sheet is printed on one side and the other is printed on both sides.

These collections has not been shown to the public for years, maybe never for some of the items.

From other Danish West Indies exhibits we present “Revenue 1744 – 1917”, The postal history of the Danish West Indies 1877 – 1917 and several exhibits containing picture postcards from Danish West Indies.

The Danish West Indian Society will be presenting their travelling exhibition and the Bruun-Rasmussen Auction-house will have inspection of several unique items from their special- Danish West Indian auction in the late autumn.
